The story of the Princess of the Moon drifts back to one thousand years ago in a peaceful kingdom called the Silver Millenium. The ruler of the Silver Millenium was Queen Serenity. Princess Serenity was the heiress to the throne and was the lover (^_^) of Prince Endymion of the Earth.
One night, Serenity is warned about how the earth is being taken over by evil forces. Soon the evil forces approach the moon and we see that it is led by Queen Metallia and Queen Beryl. The four loyal guardians of the princess, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus, attack with all of their power but it does no damage to Metallia and she destroys them easily. Meanwhile, Beryl tries to talk Endymion over to the dark side but he rejects her. Metallia drags the prince away from the princess. Refusing to be torn away from her love, the princess is eventually killed with Endymion. The Silver Millenium was ruined. Heartbroken, the Queen unleashes the power of the ginzuishou and sent everyone into the future and hoped that in the future, the evil would be defeated. Alone, on the moon, the Queen dies...
In the battle with Metallia, Sailormoon transforms into the Princess and with the power of her friends, she defeats the enemy for good.
Power
Sailormoon will often transform into the Princess Serenity when she needs more power. This was seen in the R movie when she tried to change the course of a meteor. Princess Serenity is probably the only one who can actually unleash the full power of the ginzuishou. Sailormoon has transformed into the Princess on several occasions. The first being in the battle against the Dark Kingdom. Then again in the R movie, then at the conclusion of the SuperS series when she dove off a building to rescue Chibimoon, and again in the Star series against Galaxia.
